Colloquium: New Hammond Sound Project

  • Het Orgelpark Gerard Brandtstraat 26 Amsterdam, 1054 JK The Netherlands (map)

Carlo de Wijs, internationally leading Hammond organist, strives, just like the Orgelpark, to integrate the organ into the musical life - albeit in the case of the Hammond organ in a wider community than that of jazz and pop. With his New Hammond Sound Project, Carlo de Wijs focuses on the specific sound of the Hammond organ, but it doesn't stop at just sound alone: visuals also plays an important role. Today he will tell about his project during an extensive lecture with many music and sound examples; the visuals are discussed as well.

The similarities and differences with comparable developments in the world of the pipe organ are fascinating; is the Utopa Baroque organ perhaps further than Hammond organs can ever reach in terms of technology? What can both worlds mean for each other? There is much room for discussion at the Orgelpark colloquia.

Language: Dutch. Price: Free.
